Guidelines for the Global HIV Nursing Award

The Global HIV Nursing Award recognizes an outstanding nurse living and working in a low middle income country (per World Bank designation) who is doing exceptional work in promoting HIV nursing and supporting persons living with and affected by HIV.

The award winner will receive assistance for travel, accommodation, and related expenses to attend the Annual Conference. They will also be invited to present an overview of their work during the conference.

Eligibility Criteria

Nominees must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a licensed, practicing nurse or nursing associate professional (e.g., registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, nurse midwife).
  • Be an active ANAC member (membership for over a year earns an additional point in scoring).
  • Not have received another ANAC award previously.
  • Demonstrate leadership, innovation and impact in HIV nursing.

Nomination Process

Who Can Apply?

  • Nurses may nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else (a colleague, mentor, or peer).
  • Nominations should highlight the nominee’s role, impact, and contributions to HIV nursing.

How to Apply:

  • Complete the electronic application in one session (have all documents ready before starting).
  • Prepare responses to the three required questions.
  • Upload relevant supporting documents as a single PDF or Word file (e.g., educational background, professional certifications).

Helpful Tips

  • The application must be completed in one sitting, so have all necessary documents ready before starting.
  • Draft responses in a separate document and copy-paste them into the application to prevent data loss.
  • Review the application categories and provide clear, detailed responses that highlight the nominee’s strengths.
  • Submit all required supporting documents (resume, license, letter of support, and personal statement) as a single PDF or Word file.

Application Questions


To apply, please answer the following three questions:

  1. Position and Role Description: Describe your current professional role in HIV nursing. What are your key responsibilities? How do you contribute to HIV care in your community? (2000-character limit)
  2. Impact on Your Community: How has your work positively impacted people in your community? Specify if your work focuses on particular populations, such as youth, key affected populations, pregnant individuals, or rural communities. Highlight any initiatives, programs, or services that have led to meaningful change. (2000-character limit)
  3. Commitment, Innovation, Creativity, Collaboration, and Compassionate Care: Explain how you demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and innovation in HIV nursing. Describe how you support patients with compassion and create new approaches to improve care. Share examples of your impact and collaboration with peers. (2000-character limit)

Supporting Documents

Nominees must submit the following documents to complete their application

Mandatory Documents:

  • Resume or CV
  • Professional License or Certification
  • If self-nominating Letter of Support – A letter from a supervisor, colleague, or community leader endorsing the nominee’s impact and contributions to HIV nursing.
  • If nominating someone else: Nominee’s Personal Statement – A brief (1-2 pages) statement from the nominee explaining their motivation for working in HIV nursing, challenges faced, and successes achieved.

Optional Supporting Documents:

  • Evidence of Impact – Reports, case studies, publications, media coverage, or testimonials demonstrating the nominee’s impact in HIV nursing.
  • Photographs (if applicable) – Images of the nominee in action (e.g., community outreach, training sessions, patient care) to illustrate their work.
  • Program or Project Documentation (if relevant) – Summaries, impact reports, or success stories related to any initiatives the nominee has developed or led.

Scoring Rubric

Applications will be scored using the following criteria (0-3 points per category):

  1. Position and Role Description
  2. Impact on the Community
  3. Commitment, Innovation, Collaboration, and Compassionate Care
  4. Supporting Evidence and Strength of Nomination
  5. ANAC Membership (+1 if a member for over a year)

Timeline

  • Call for Nominations Opens: March 1, 2025
  • Nomination Deadline: March 31, 2025
  • Review Period: April 1- April 7, 2025
  • Selection and Notification of Awardee: April 8, 2025
  • Award Announcement: Mid-April 2025
  • Annual Conference: November 5-8, 2025
