Accredited Nursing Continuing Professional Development

In January 2014, ANAC was awarded accreditation as a provider of continuing nursing education from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. We provide a wide range of educational activities to meet the professional development needs of HIV nurses.

If you are interested in working with ANAC to develop continuing education eligible activities, please contact our Director of Nursing Continuing Professional Development, Mary Smith. Mary is ANAC’s lead nurse planner and will work with you to help develop your event objectives, content and evaluation plan.

Frequently asked questions

What happened to CNE?

You will notice ANAC now refers to CNE as NCPD. This is primarily a change in terminology. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) has changed the term continuing nursing education (CNE) to nursing continuing professional development (NCPD). Instead of earning CNE, nurses will now earn NCPD. Contact hours will continue to be the measure of credit earned (ie. One contact hour of CNE is equal to one contact hour of NCPD).

Why do we use this language?

The ANCC is the primary accrediting body for continuing education in nursing and ANAC has been accredited by ANCC as a provider of continuing education in nursing since 2014. ANCC began the transition to the use of NCPD in 2019-2020. NCPD is the same language used throughout the specialty of nursing professional development.

What does this mean for me?

Nurses completing an educational activity will earn a certificate stating: "The Association of Nurses in AIDS Care is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation." This certificate will also include the number of NCPD contact hours earned.

Will I be able to use NCPD and CNE for my recertification?

Yes, there is no difference between the two. ANAC and HANCB anticipate nurses will enter both CNE and NCPD into their logs when seeking ACRN, AACRN or ACLPN recertification.

The Association of Nurses in AIDS Care is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
