This case-based presentation will provide health care providers with an introduction to transgender health for people living with HIV. Particpants will learn how to create a welcoming environment for transgender patients as well as the basics of hormone therapy and drug interactions.
Tonia Poteat is a certified HIV specialist who has provided primary care and HIV care to transgender individuals since 1996. 16 years providing HIV and LGBT health care. She completed her dissertation at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health on stigma and access to care for transgender adults. She currently works as the Senior Advisor for Key Populations at the Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator where she manages the HIV prevention portfolio for sex workers, drug users, MSM, and transgender persons.
