Chesapeake Bay Chapter
(Last Updated 2005)
The Chesapeake Chapter of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care was initially developed in late 1991 when a dedicated group of nurses returned from the National Conference determined to start a local chapter. They worked hard to gather the proper documentation, hold regular meetings, create By-laws and elect officers.
The Chesapeake Chapter of The Association of Nurses in AIDS Care was chartered at the National Conference in November 1992.
The first President was Brian Ford, and Greg Parr (current National Director) was, and still is, the Treasurer. Some of the other early chapter members were Susan Bloomer, Becky Brotmarkle, Hannah Flax, Betty Freeman, Simon Freyou, Elaine Glasier, Kathy Henderson, Dirk LeFlore, Kevin Mallinson (now the President of HANCB), Anna Mullen, and many more. Note that several of these members are still quite active in this vital organization!!
Along the way this chapter has participated in the AIDS Walk and Gay Pride; held regular monthly meetings and larger educational events with many nurse-speakers; and this year the chapter is sponsoring a week-end retreat to develop a Strategic Plan for the future. We are proud of the involvement our chapter has had in the HIV/AIDS arena.
There are no local dues but one must be a member of National in order to join our local chapter. Thus we urge you to join National today, so that you can be a part of the Chesapeake Chapter as we work together to meet the Mission of ANAC.
