Central Ohio Chapter
(Last Updated 2005)
The Central Ohio Chapter of ANAC was founded in 1996. A group of dedicated AIDS nurses primarily from Columbus Children’s Hospital and from The Ohio State University AIDS Clinical Trials Unit formed what quickly became a vibrant chapter. Opportunities to share experiences and ideas with colleagues from AIDS organizations other than their own were welcomed by the members. Regular meetings were well attended and there were frequent educational opportunities offered.
In 1999, the chapter received recognition for its participation in ANAC’s “Pot-O-Gold” campaign to recruit new members.
In 2002 as a number of the founding members pursued new professional opportunities, a downturn in membership resulted.
In 2004 a committee was formed to determine the future of the Central Ohio Chapter. A focus meeting resulted in revived leadership and focus for the Central Ohio ANAC Chapter. Thanks to the efforts of the new president Cheryl Foley and others our revitalized chapter was relaunched at an exciting dinner and meeting on June 3, 2004. Jan Briggs MSN RN ANPc inspired the members with an account of an AIDS nurse’s devotion to her patients even in the most trying circumstances.
In 2005, we continue to grow as we collaborate with the Pennsylvania and Mid-Atlantic AIDS Education and Training Centers to provide stimulating evenings of professional discussion and education. Presentations on HIV genomics, and federal funding of HIV care have been offered in the first half of the year.
As new nurses and others join the Central Ohio Chapter, the chapter will continue to evolve to meet the changing needs and aspirations of its membership to flourish in their roles as AIDS care professionals.
