Schedule your exam

Once you have submitted your ACRN or AACRN application, your eligibility will be verified by the HANCB National Office (may take up to 7-10 business days). After your application has been approved, you will receive an email with detailed instructions on how to schedule your exam.  

The first available testing date will be five days from the date of your application’s approval. You can schedule your exam at any of the testing centers available through Iso-Quality Testing (IQT). You will have six months from the date your application is approved to sit for the exam. If you have questions about scheduling, please contact us.

Rescheduling or canceling your exam

If you choose to cancel or reschedule your exam five or more days before to your scheduled exam date, you will need pay a $25 rescheduling fee to IQT. If you reschedule or cancel less than five days before your scheduled exam, you will forfeit the full testing fee. We do not offer refunds. Exceptions will be made for medical emergencies, the death of an immediate family member or active duty military orders only. To reschedule an exam, please contact IQT directly at 727.738.8727.

No show/improper ID policy

If you fail to appear for a scheduled exam or come to the testing center without proper ID and/or the proper admission letter, you will forfeit the full testing fee.  Please note, if you do not show up at the scheduled exam time, you will be considered a no-show, the exam fees will be forfeited and you will be required to re-register and pay all fees again prior to sitting for the exam.

Preparing for exam day

Once you schedule your exam online, you will see a confirmation screen with your receipt and admission document. Print this document and bring it to the testing center with proper identification. Valid identification includes a government-issued driver's license, state identification card, passport or military ID. You will not be admitted to the testing center without your admission document and ID. If you lose or misplace your admission document, you may log back into your account and print it as many times as you need to. You are encouraged to arrive at the testing center at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time of the exam.

Exam rules

The following rules apply to all applicants:
•    All signaling devices, including cell phones, pagers or alarms must be turned off during the exam
•    No books or other reference materials may be taken into the exam room
•    No test material, documents or memoranda of any kind can be taken from the exam room

Exam results

You will receive your results immediately after completing the exam. You should not leave the testing center until the proctor share your results with you. If you answer 175 of the 250 questions correctly (70%), you will have successfully earned your ACRN or AACRN credentials and will receive a certificate from the HIV/AIDS Nursing Certification Board. If you score 174 or less, HANCB will provide a breakdown of your scores by content category. To have your score manually verified, please submit a written request. Failure of the examination is not a circumstance for appeal. Test scores will be released in writing only to individual candidates.

Retaking the exam

If you meet the eligibility requirements, you can retake the exam as often as you would like after filing a new application and fee. There is no limit to the number of times you can retake the exam.

Revocation of certification

Reasons for certification revocation include, but are not limited to, falsification of an application and/or misrepresentation of a certification status. If you want to challenge a revocation, you must initiate the appeal process by contacting the HIV/AIDS Nursing Certification Board.
